It is safe to say, that this year weather in Slovenia (and also in other parts of Europe) was nowhere near what should be like in the summer. We hadn’t had more than a few hot and sunny days. For instance, in the beginning of August, Dubrovnik in the south of Croatia had more rain in one day, than in whole November (which is usually their rainiest month). Crazy!!
Nevertheless, this way it was easier for us to wait for the whole summer for our D-day: summer vacation in Cyclades.
Our flight to Mykonos was very early and after quick after work packing and a good two hours of sleep, we left at 2 AM. You can imagine that after a working week and a deprivation of sleep, we literally fell into coma on the airplane.
The first thing that greeted us on Mykonos was a beautiful sun, friendly temperatures and really heavy wind that nearly blew us away. Without any passport control the first local, that we met, was the taxi driver. We had to get to the port, to continue our journey to Paros. When you are reading tourist guides and calculating the distances, Mykonos is quite small. Airport is just 5 km from the new port and a search on the internet suggested 10€ as a fair price. But the locals are ingenious. Recommended price quickly rises so you easily pay 20€ for the fair and this fair could probably be even higher. But there is not much you can do, besides walk on the hot sun for 5 km with your bag. Maybe sharing a cab would be a best option, but we just wanted to get away from the airport as quickly as possible.
Upon the arrival to the port and having our first real Greek frappe coffee, it made us realize where we were. Greece, it is good to be back 🙂
So how did we plan our island hopping itinerary?
We decided to spend 4 days on each island. For some it may seem a lot, because many people spend only one or two nights on each island, for others it may seem little, because you could easily take at least a week to explore each island. 4 days were just enough to see every island as well as to take time to relax on the beach and not rush every day to some new place.
As explained, we flew to Mykonos. In between the islands we traveled with ferries, which we found very expensive. For the shortest ferry ride (30 minutes) from Paros to Naxos we paid 10 EUR each and for the longest ride (3 hours) from Santorini to Mykonos we paid 56 EUR per person. If you plan on traveling between the islands, be sure to check the ferries in advance. Some islands have connections to a lot of other islands, but some just too very few. The site that we found reliable is: http://www.openseas.gr/index.html
We booked accommodation via Booking. All the prices were very cheap because it’s was the end of the high season and because we booked well in advance (around 5 months). We’ll share more information about individual accommodation in posts about each island.
Otherwise it was a great trip, worth all the funds. Don’t worry, you’ll soon find out why. 😉
Amazing guys….this island hopping is a great idea, and I find 4 days great! You are right about the summer… in Germany rained the entire month of august, pretty sad 😦 very short summer! But Im happy to be in Turkey now to go diving for a few days 😀
I am very curious to see some more posts about this amazing trip… Im planning to go next year 😀

Thanks, we really enjoyed our time there. Looking back, we would probably change some things, but nonetheless it was still unforgeable. As we found out, it was raining here for almost the whole time, we were gone, so even better that we went.
I hope that you have a great time in Turkey. Diving there must have been a great experience. If you need any help at planning or have some more info, just let us know. 🙂

It was magnificent, like all 4 islands. 🙂 Although it was maybe a bit too crowded for us. Even in September it was still a lot of people. But it was worth visiting 😉
